Wythnos 37/Week 37: 13-19 Ebrill/April 1915

[English below]

Ceir adroddiadau’r wythnos hon am lythyr a dderbyniodd Mrs Knight oddi wrth gyfaill ei gŵr, Preifat F. Hughes, yn ei hysbysu bod ei gŵr, Preifat John Knight, wedi marw. Mae milwr o Wlad Belg yn adrodd stori deimladwy i Mr Edgar Rees, dyfarnwr Undeb Pêl-droed Cymru, a cheir dadansoddiad o golledion Byddin Ymgyrchol Prydain.

Yn ôl ‘Recruiting in Cardiganshire’ gall Cymry ymrestru bellach ym Myddin Cymru, ac mae’r taldra sy’n ofynnol i ymuno â’r Ffiwsilwyr Brenhinol Cymreig wedi’i ostwng i bum troedfedd ac un fodfedd. Mae galw hefyd am ddynion sydd wedi arfer â thrin ceffylau – pa bynnag mor dal y bônt.

Dywed Cadeirydd Sesiwn Fach Troedyraur Isaf y dylid rhoi ystyriaeth i fechgyn a merched nad oeddent yn mynychu’r ysgol yn gyson, gan fod angen iddynt weithio ar y fferm wrth i’r gweision ymrestru.

Reported this week is the letter received by Mrs Knight from her husband’s friend, Private F. Hughes regrettably informing her of the death of her husband, Private John Knight. A Belgian officer relates a touching story to Mr Edgar Rees a Welsh Football Union referee from Cardigan and there is an analysis of British losses sustained by the British Expeditionary Force.

As can be read in ‘Recruiting in Cardiganshire’ Welshmen can now enlist in the Welsh Army and the standard height for Royal  Welsh Fusiliers is reduced to 5ft. 1in. Men used to caring for horses are also wanted,-no minimum standard of height.

The Chairman of Lower Troedyraur Petty Sessions remarks that cases of boys and girls should be taken into account with regard to irregular school attendance due to the need for farm labour as a result of agricultural servants enlisting.
