Wythnos 47/Week 47: 20-26 Mehefin/June 1915

[English below]

Derbynia 8 goroeswr lleol o’r H.M.S. Majestic groeso twymgalon ar eu dychweliad i Aberteifi tra bod William Jones o Langrannog yn derbyn medal a thystysgrif am fentro’i fywyd fel aelod o griw yr S.S. Cymrian.

Mae Miss Ethel Williams, nyrs yn y Groes Goch, adre a mae Maer Aberteifi yn diolch i’r rhai hynny sydd wedi rhoi tatws, llysiau a menyn i’r Belgiaid. Mae mwy na 10% o boblogaeth Aberteifi yn y fyddin.

Gweler tri adroddiad o dan Castell Newydd Emlyn:- mae Preifat T.O. Jones wedi derbyn comisiwn; cyhoeddiad o enedigaeth Emlina,- baban bach Belgiaidd, ac y mae Gynnwr Moses Vaughan wedi ei anafu yn ei goes a’i ben.

Mae’n debyg y bod asiantiaid milwrol o’r Almaen wedi bod yn prynu ceffylau o Geredigion cyn y Rhyfel, ac y mae’r Sir yn colli mab arall yn George Frederick Evans a bu farw yn Ysbyty Aberystwyth.

This week there is a report of the eight local  survivors of the H. M. S. Majestic receiving a rapturous welcome on their return to Cardigan whilst William Jones of Llangranog receives a medal and diploma for risking his life as a crew member of the S.S. Cymrian.

Red Cross Nurse Miss Ethel Williams is on leave and the Mayor of Cardigan thanks those who have donated potatoes, vegetables and butter to the Belgians. More than 10% of the Cardigan population are serving with the colours, 49 of whom are members of St. Mary’s Church Young Men’s Sunday School class.

There are 3 reports relating to the war under Newcastle-Emlyn; a commission granted to Private T.O. Jones, the announcement of the birth of a Belgian baby named Emlina and Adpar man Gunner Moses Vaughan is wounded in the leg and head by shrapnel.

Apparently Ceredigion horses were purchased by German military agents before the war, and the county loses another son in Frederick George Evans who died in Aberystwyth Infirmary following discharge for illness.
