Wythnos 55 & 56/weeks 55 & 56: 15-28 Awst/August 1915

[English below]

Nifer o apwyntiadau, dyrchafiadau, recriwtiadau, a.y.b yn yr adroddiad ‘Local war items’. Derbynnir newyddion trist gan Mr W.  Phillips o Aberteifi am farwolaeth ei fab trwy ddamwain yn Ne America.

Cyfeiriwyd at Capten George P.W. Hope, mab y diweddar Capten Jordan o Pigeonsford, Llangrannog mewn Adroddiadau Rhyfel (Dispatches) ac yn ôl pob golwg mae cynnydd yng nghyflogau bron 2 filiwn a hanner o’r gweithle.

Mae colledigion Sir Aberteifi yn parhau yn drwm, yn bennaf oherwydd yr ymladd yn Gallipoli lle y lladdwyd Capten Eric Guy Harries. Fe’i claddwyd yng ngwlad Groeg ond fe’i goffawyd ar faen sylweddol ym mynwent Aberystwyth yn Heol Llanbadarn.

‘Local War Items’ has many reports of appointments, promotions, recruitments, etc and sad news is received by Mr W. Phillips of St. Mary’s Street, Cardigan of his son’s accidental death in South America.

Captain George P.W. Hope, the son of the late Captain Jordan, of Pigeonsford, Llangrannog is ‘mentioned in Dispatches’, and apparently since August nearly two and a half million work people have had increases in their wages due to the effect of the war.

Cardiganshire losses continue to be high which is mainly due to the fighting in Gallipoli where Captain Eric Guy Harries falls. He is buried in Greece but is also commemorated on an impressive rock in Aberystwyth Cemetery, Llanbadarn Road.
