Wythnos 58/Week 58: 9-15 Medi/September 1915

[English below]

Wythnos 58 a dim colledion.

Cyhoeddir  llythyron â ysgrifennwyd gan y milwyr yn y Dardanelles yn y ‘Cardigan and Tivyside’.

Ceir erthyglau am glowyr De Cymru yn ‘Pell ac Agos’.

Mae’n debyg ei bod hi’n anodd asesu beth sy’n digwydd yn Galicia,-‘Rhyw gael a cholli, colli a chael’.  Tro diddordeb lleol tuag at Gallipoli a’r Dardenels lle mae’r 4ydd Gatrawd Gymreig yn ymladd.

Mae Arglwydd Cromer yn datgan barn yn erbyn gorfodaeth filwrol. Ceir hefyd gyfeiriad at bris bara a sefyllfa truenus gwlad Belg.

Week 58 and no losses.

Letters from those fighting in the Dardenelles are published in this week’s Cardigan and Tivy-side Advertiser and give us a glimpse of life in the trenches.

‘Pell ac Agos’ [‘Far and Near’] has articles relating to the coalminers of South Wales. A general strike was feared but this seems to have been averted.

Apparently the situation regarding the fighting in Galicia is difficult to assess as it is a continual effort of gaining and losing and vice versa.

Interest at the moment is centred on Gallipoli and the Dardanelles where the 4th Welsh Regiment are fighting.

Lord Cromer declares his opposition to compulsory conscription.

The price of bread is high but if the Dardanelles were to be opened it would have a positive  effect on the market. However the situation in this country is good compared to the situation in Belgium where agriculture and industry are nearly at a standstill.
