Wythnos/week 67: 10-16Tachwedd/November 1915

[English below]

Yr wythnos yma yn 1915 gweler adroddiad ar ddatblygiad cynllun yr Arglwydd Derby ar ganfasio’r dynion anserennog (unstarred) nglyn ag ymrestru. Mae Mrs. D. C. Jones gyda chymorth menywod Cei Newydd wedi casglu bron 250 eitem o ddillad i’r carcharorion yn yr Almaen tra bod Meistr Llewelyn Phillips, Llanfyrnach yn derbyn llythyr o ddiolch oddi wrth Sarjant Ernest Suter am ei gyfraniad o wyau i’r ‘Tommies’ yn yr ‘No 3 Canadian General Hospital’ yn Ffrainc. Yn ‘Local War Items’ ceir son am garden a godwyd ar ‘Hill 70’ gan Preifat J. Hall. Addurnwyd y garden yma gyda baneri’r Cynghreiriaid yn sidan ac roedd wedi ei gyfeirio i Miss Daisy Jones oddi wrth Corporal Thomas. Hefyd ceir hanes Sarjant David John o Aberteifi wrth iddo ymladd gyda’i fataliwn sef ‘C Company 5th Batt. Dorset Regiment, 11th Division British Mediterranean Expeditionary Force’. Yn olaf parha gwneir y cynnwrf ynglyn a dysgu’r Almaeneg yn ysgol Sirol Aberteifi.

This week in 1915 there is a report on the progress of Lord Derby’s scheme to ‘canvass individually all “unstarred” men with a view to their enlistment’. Mrs D.C. Jones and New Quay ladies have collected nearly 250 articles of clothing for those interned in Germany whilst Master Llewelyn Phillips, Llanfyrnach receives a letter from Sergeant Ernest Suter thanking him for his donation of an egg to those wounded soldiers in No 3 Canadian General Hospital in France. ‘Local War Items’ has a piece about a souvenir card found by Private Hall on ‘Hill 70’ which is addressed to Miss Daisy Jones and signed by Corporal Thomas. Also Sergeant David John, C Company 5th Battalion Dorset Regiment, 11th Division British Mediterranean Expeditionary Force relates of his experiences and finds it strange that the Battalion is now composed mostly of reinforcements there being only about 150 left of the old hands. Finally the teaching of German in Cardigan County School continues to cause concern.
