Gweler yr wythnos yma lythyr yn llyfr llythyron Cyngor Sir Aberteifi ynglyn a chais am lwfans ymwahanu gan Emily Florence Evans, Glaneigion House, Cei Newydd. Yn ol y llythyr mae Emily yn dibynnu ar gyfraniad Frank Davies (sef ei brawd sydd wedi ymuno a’r fyddin) o £11 yn ogystal a hanner cyflog y gwas.

Cyhoedda ‘Cambrian Railways’ eu bod yn cynnig safleoedd ar gyfer sefydlu diwydiannau newydd.

Mae lluniau tri o feibion y Sir yn y Cambrian News a son am eu profiadau.

Yn ol ‘The Military Service Actbydd y cyfle i ddynion sengl tystio’n wirfoddol yn dod i ben ar ddydd Mercher, Mawrth 1af.

Ceir son am ddynes arall yr wythnos yma sef Mrs Silyn Roberts sydd wedi ei phenodi yn drefnydd dros fenywod sydd yn gweithio yn amaethyddiaeth yng Nghymru. Bu Mrs Silyn Roberts yn ddarllithydd ym Mhrifysgol Cymru, Aberystwyth.

Cynhaliwyd cyngerdd ym Mhenygarn i godi arian i Ysbyty’r Groes Goch tra gweler cyfraniadau ardal Strata Florida at yr un achos.

Yn Swyddffynnon cafwyd anerchiad temperans a diweddariad ar y sefyllfa recriwtio yn y wlad. Yn ol yr adroddiad nifer fach o fechgyn yr ardal sydd heb dystio eto.

O dan ‘Tregaron’ dywed y bod y rhyfel wedi gyrru’r merched yn ol at y gweill.

Fel arfer mae ‘War Items’ yn rhoi hanes y rhai hynny sy’n ynglwm a’r rhyfel.

4 colled yr wythnos yma: lladdwyd Richard Williams wrth gario cyflenwadau i’r ffrynt; bu farw Thomas Jones Davies a Thomas Morrison ar yr SS Duckbridge; mae Thomas Rees Warrington yn syrthio yn Boesinghe, Gwlad Belg.

 

On page 179 of the ‘Letter Book of Cardiganshire County Council’ there is correspondence relating to Emily Florence Evans’ claim for a Separation Allowance in respect of her brother Frank Davies.

Cambrian Railways announce that they have sites to offer for the establishment of new industries as a result of the war.

An Aberystwyth Drummer, and a Pontrhydygroes Captain and Cadet are pictured in the Cambrian News and according to ‘The Military Service Act’ the last day for voluntary attestation is March 1st.

Mrs Silyn Roberts, who at one time had been a lecturer in education at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, is appointed organiser for Wales of women employed in agriculture.

Meanwhile, a concert is held in Penygarn in aid of the proposed Auxiliary Red Cross Hospital at Aberystwyth. A house to house collection is made in Strata Florida for the same cause.

A Temperance address is given in Swyddffynnon and according to the same report there are now only a few unattested single men of military age in the district.

According to ‘Gwlana a gwau’ in the Cambrian News the women of Tregaron have, due to the war, returned to the age old industry of knitting, whilst a further update on local individuals directly involved with the war can be seen in the ‘War Items’ column in the Cardigan and Tivyside Advertiser. 

4 losses this week: Richard Williams falls whilst taking supplies to the front line; both Thomas Jones Davies and Thomas Morrison are killed when the SS Duckbridge strikes German mines off the British coast; Thomas Rees Warrington dies whilst retrieving fallen soldiers at Boesinghe, Belgium.
