Wythnos/week 109: 1-7Medi/September 1916

[English below]

Mae J. Islan Jones yn dal i lythyru – ar 27 Awst, mae’n ysgrifennu at y Preifat Horace Harris sydd ar faes y gad yn Ffrainc, gan ddweud bod gwŷr ifanc yn cael eu tynnu o’r amryw ddiwydiannau lleol yn raddol, a bod menywod yn cymryd eu lle.

Yn y Cambrian News mae’r gwŷr ar faes y gad yn diolch i’r rheiny sydd wedi anfon pethau i’w cysuro, yn enwedig y sigarets.

Ymddengys y cynhelir Eisteddfodau mewn sawl un o gytiau’r Y.M.C.A. yn Ffrainc, ac awgrymir y gellid defnyddio’r elw o’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol i brynu cwt arall, gan fod galw mawr amdanynt ar y ffrynt.

Ceir adroddiadau o sawl pentref yn y sir:

Felin-fach a Chellan – rhagor o wasanaethau coffa.

Y Borth – mae’r Morwr R. Davies wedi dod adref am seibiant.

Penparcau – mae Cylch Gwnïo Darllenfa wedi anfon pecynnau o byjamas a chrysau nos i Ysbyty’r Groes Goch yn Aberystwyth ac Ysbyty’r Cymry yn Netley.

Llanybydder – mae’r Is-gorporal W. Cheverton a’i frawd ieuengach, y Magnelwr Alfie Cheverton o Lax Lodge, Highmead, gartref ar gennad, a bu ond y dim i’r brawd hynaf gael ei ladd cyn dod.

Llangeitho – ceir rhagor o sôn am deulu’r Lyons.

Mae hysbyseb yn galw ar ddynion i ymrestru i wneud gwaith adeiladu: ‘Enrol Today in the Building Labour Squad at the Nearest Labour Exchange’.

Yn olaf, mae’r ffilm The Battle of the Somme yn rhan o’r arlwy a gynigir cyn bo hir yn y sinema ar Stryd y Farchnad yn Aberystwyth.

J. Islan Jones continues his correspondence: dated the 27th August, he writes to Private Horace Harris who is serving in France, stating that young men are steadily being combed out of the various industries at home and women are taking their places.

In the Cambrian News men on active service thank those who have sent them comforts especially ‘smokes’.

Apparently Eisteddfodau are held in many of the Y.M.C.A. huts in France and it is suggested that the eisteddfod surplus be used to provide one of many huts necessary at the front.

Many reports can be read from various villages across the county:

Felinfach and Cellan – more memorial services.

Borth – Seaman R. Davies is home on leave.

Penparcau – the Darllenfa Sewing Circle have sent parcels of pyjama suits and nightshirts to the Red Cross Hospital, Aberystwyth and the Welsh Hospital, Netley.

Llanybydder – Lance-corporal W. Cheverton and younger brother Gunner Alfie Cheverton of Lax Lodge, Highmead are home on furlough, the former having had a narrow escape from being killed.

Llangeitho – the Lyons family are in the news again.

An advertisement is placed calling for men to ‘Enrol Today in the Building Labour Squad at the Nearest Labour Exchange’.

Finally The Battle of the Somme is amongst the features to be shown shortly at the cinema in Market Street, Aberystwyth.
