Wythnos/Week 124: 15-21 Rhagfyr/December 1916

[English below]

Wythnos arall heb golledigion yn y Sir ond bydd gwasanaeth coffa i Preifat David Morgan Jones o Aberteifi yng nghapel Penybryn ar nos Sul. Lladdwyd Preifat Jones yn y Dardenelles ar Awst 10fed 1915.

Mae sawl llanc adre’ neu wedi bod adre’ yng Nghoedybryn yn ddiweddar, -pedwar ohonynt yn gwella o’u hanafiadau.

Mae Mr Llewellyn Jones o Aberaeron wedi ei anafu’n ddifrifol.

Ceir rhagor o luniau a gwybodaeth am leoliad y rhai hynny sydd wedi listio, tra adre’ mae Cadlywydd Ysbyty’r Groes Goch yn Aberystwyth yn apelio am gyfraniadau ar gyfer cinio Nadolig y dynion.

Hefyd, o dan hanes Aberystwyth gweler fod Corpral Howard Emery Smith yn priodi Miss Rosaline Maglona Jones, merch hynaf Mrs Jones, Gwesty’r Plough ac y mae Cyngor Tref Aberystwyth yn annog y Llywodraeth yn barchus, i gynyddu’r pensiwn Rhyfel.

Ysgrifenna T.W. Sefton i J. Islan Jones am ei brofiad yn ymweld a’r ffosydd dros ddeuddydd. Yn ôl Sefton, profodd King Winter i fod yn elyn dipyn mwy arswydus na’r Bosche.

Wrth i’r Nadolig agosau mae’r Gorchymyn i barchu seibiant Nadolig y milwyr yn galluogi yr un canran o filwyr a llynedd i dreulio’r Nadolig adre.

Another week of no recorded Cardiganshire losses but a memorial service for Private David Morgan Jones, Cardigan will be held at Penybryn Chapel on Sunday evening. Private Jones was killed in the Dardenelles on August 10th, 1915.

Quite a few ‘boys’ are, or have been at home in Coedybryn recently, four of whom are recovering from their wounds.

Mr Llewellyn Jones of Aberayron has been severely wounded.

Photographs continue to appear of those men who have enlisted and of their whereabouts, whilst at home the Commandant of the Red Cross Hospital at Aberystwyth appeals for gifts for the proposed Christmas dinner for the men.

Also under Aberystwyth is the news that Corporal Howard Emery Smith marries Miss Rosaline Maglona Jones, eldest daughter of Mrs Jones, Plough Hotel and the Aberystwyth Town Council respectfully urges the Government to consider increasing War pensions.

J. Islan Jones receives further communication from T.W. Sefton who, after a two day visit to the trenches mentions that ‘King Winter proved a much more formidable enemy than the Bosche’.

As Christmas approaches the Order respecting Christmas leave for soldiers enables the same proportion of soldiers to spend Christmas at home as last year.
