Wythnos/week 146: 18-24 Mai/May 1917

[English below]
24 Mai yw Diwrnod yr Ymerodraeth a darllenodd y Maer A. Clougher Ddatganiad y Brenin yn Aberteifi ac mae cais am ganiatâd i gynnal raffl ar ran y Groes Goch a Chronfa Mr Fear yn Aberystwyth.

Mae Ioan Gwendraeth wedi cyfansoddi cerdd er cof am y Preifat D.J. Thomas a gafodd ei ladd yn yr ‘Ymgyrch Fawr’.

Mae yna bytiau o newyddion ynglŷn â dyrchafiad y Preifat L.T. Rees ac mae’r Preifat D. M. Thomas a’r Is-lefftenant S. Thomas ar seibiant.

Mae effeithiau’r rhyfel wedi eu cofnodi yng nghoflyfrau llawer o’r ysgolion: bydd Mr Goronwy Morgan o Ysgol Langynfelyn yn mynd gerbron y Bwrdd Meddygol; mae’r Corporal J.T. Jones yn dadorchuddio ‘Rhestr Anrhydeddau’ yn Ysgol Pen-uwch; yn Ysgol Ffordd Alexandra mae’r merched yn pigo mwsogl migwyn a’i lanhau, ac ar Ddiwrnod yr Ymerodraeth mae’r plant yn gwrando ar Ddatganiad Arbed Bwyd y Brenin sy’n cael ei ddarllen gan y Maer o flaen Neuadd y Dref.

Mae rhybudd i ddarllenwyr y Cardigan and Tivyside Advertiser ynglŷn â pheryglon clefydau heintus. Mae’n bosib gwneud rhywbeth yn eu cylch trwy ddefnyddio sebon diheintio ‘Cymorth Cyntaf’ yn rheolaidd. Mae hwnnw’n cael ei ddefnyddio mewn ysbytai milwrol ac mae’n gymeradwy gan ddynion meddygol.

The 24th May is Empire Day; Mayor A. Clougher reads the King’s Proclamation in Cardigan and an application is made for permission to have a draw on behalf of the Red Cross and Mr Fear’s fund in Aberystwyth.

Ioan Gwendraeth has composed a poem in memory of Private D.J. Thomas who was killed in the ‘Big Push’.

Further snippets of news can be read regarding Private L.T. Rees’ promotion and that both Private D. M. Thomas and Second-Lieutenant S. Thomas are on leave.

The effects of the War are recorded in the log books of many schools: Mr Goronwy Morgan of Llancynfelyn school is to appear before the Medical Board; Corporal J.T.Jones unveils a ‘Roll of Honour’ in Penuwch school; in Alexandra Road school girls pick and clean sphagnum moss; and on Empire Day the children listen to the King’s Food Saving Proclamation being read by the Mayor in front of the Town Hall.

Readers of the Cardigan and Tivyside Advertiser are warned of the danger of infectious disease which may be averted by constant use of ‘First Aid’ disinfectant soap which is used in military hospitals and recommended by medical men.
