Wythnos/week 147: 25-31 Mai/May 1917

[English below]
Mae llai o newyddion yr wythnos yma ond mae mwy o golledion.

Ar 25 Mai mae Prifathro Ysgol Llanafan yn nodi bod 2 o gyn ddisgyblion wedi eu lladd, sef Joacim Bonner a John D. Evans yn Ffrainc.

Cadeiriau traeth yw’r mater dan sylw yng Nghyngor Bwrdeistref Aberystwyth. Penderfynwyd gosod sedd bob tu i’r Bandstand at ddefnydd milwyr clwyfedig.

Cafodd Cynllun Crwydradaeth Gorllewin Cymru ei gymeradwyo gan y Pwyllgor Crwydradaeth. Bydd ward nos Aberteifi ar gau dros dro oherwydd bod llawer llai o grwydriaid ar hyd y lle.

Ysgrifenna’r ”Scribbler” fod dilynwyr Isaak Walton (awdur The Compleat Angler) yn mwynhau eu hunain yn dal ‘bass’ yn Aberteifi. Mae’n debyg eu bod yn lluosog iawn ac yn ôl un dyn ysmala mae mwy ohonyn nhw na’r math sy’n dod mewn poteli – ac maen nhw’n rhatach!

Less news this week but many losses.

On May 25th the Headteacher of Llanafan School records the deaths of 2 former scholars, Joacim Bonner and John D. Evans, in France.

Beach chairs are discussed in the Aberystwyth Borough Council and it is resolved that a seat is to be placed on either side of the Bandstand for the use of wounded soldiers.

The West Wales Vagrancy Scheme is approved by the Vagrancy Committee. The casual ward in Cardigan will thus be temporarily closed due to the considerable decrease in vagrants.

’The Scribbler’ writes that the disciples of Isaak Walton (author of The Compleat Angler) are having great fun catching bass in Cardigan. Apparently the pests are to be seen in great numbers and according to one ‘wag’ are more plentiful than the bottled variety – and cheaper!
